5 Among the myriad of issues facing glaucoma patients and clinicians alike are the sizable barriers to ocular drug delivery. Most existing glaucoma medications are hypotensive agents administered as topical eye drops, whose frequent and burdensome administration leads to patient adherence rates considered to be “pharmacologically insufficient” in over 75% of patients1. Even when eye drops are administered correctly, absorption to the intraocular tissues is below 10%2.
